The airport side of Bangkok
Lat Krabang is a large eastern district whose identity is bound to Suvarnabhumi Airport, the airport rail corridor and the industrial and university landscape around it. It can be convenient for airport workers and people whose lives are east of central Bangkok. It is a difficult choice for someone who wants a short, predictable inner city commute.
The Airport Rail Link serves Lat Krabang, but station access varies sharply by address. Lat Krabang Road, motorways and local roads carry much of the rest of daily life. The airport is close enough to shape noise and traffic, and industrial estates mean that some roads serve freight as well as residents. Inspect the route and the building’s soundproofing.
Lat Krabang also has a more local side, with canals, temples, markets and low rise housing alongside newer developments. King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang is a major presence and helps give parts of the district a student and academic population. The area is not uniformly urban, which can be its pleasure or its inconvenience.
Who fits
Airport staff, students, families working in the east and remote workers should consider it. Central Bangkok commuters should be cautious. A larger house and lower density do not compensate for a journey that dominates every weekday.
Would I live here?
Yes, if my work was near the airport or the institute. I would not rent here on the assumption that an airport rail line makes the whole district central. Lat Krabang is a useful edge, and edges demand a reason.
