An airport approach that is becoming residential
Kakab is a road oriented area on the airport side of Phnom Penh. Older local housing, shopfronts, compounds and new construction sit together, so an address can feel settled or transitional depending on its road. It is included on the map as an edge condition, not as a polished central alternative.
The useful anchors are the airport approach and the Russian Federation Boulevard side of the city. The old airport is in Pou Senchey district, and the district’s sangkat structure places Kakab alongside the Chaom Chao industrial and residential corridor. This is a place where work location should decide the search.
Living beside the road network
City Bus serves selected northern and western corridors, but PassApp and Grab tuk tuks are more practical for the last stretch. Motorbike or car access is helpful. Check whether the exact lane drains properly, whether heavy vehicles pass nearby and whether a home’s entrance remains usable when the road is busy.
There is no current rent research for Kakab in the map record. Newer housing may offer better services, but a new building does not make the surrounding road walkable. Inspect at the time of day you will travel and ask what construction remains around the property.
The airport assumption
Kakab is airport side, but that does not make every journey easy. The old airport’s presence has shaped the area, while Phnom Penh’s new international airport has shifted the city’s long term aviation focus south. Choose Kakab for a west side routine and road access, not as a timeless airport lifestyle.
Would I live here?
I would for a west side job, a short lease or a household that prefers space to centrality. I would not choose it for a daily central commute without trying the route. Kakab can be functional and good value, but its compromises are visible in the road and the unfinished edges.
