A central north east compromise
Wang Thonglang sits between the inner city and the eastern suburbs, with Lat Phrao and Ramkhamhaeng roads carrying the movement. It is a dense local district of apartments, houses, shops and institutions rather than a single expat quarter. The position is useful. The traffic is the price.
The main roads provide buses and commerce, while the smaller sois offer quieter homes with less direct access. The MRT Yellow Line improves some journeys, but the address still determines whether rail is actually useful. Check the walk and the road crossing, especially if the home is in a lane behind a busy frontage.
Wang Thonglang suits local professionals, families and people who want to sit between several parts of Bangkok. It is less suited to somebody wanting a finished neighbourhood with a narrow international identity. The area is ordinary in a good way, but ordinary Bangkok still asks you to plan around traffic.
My verdict
I would live here for a good location and a well chosen building. I would not pay a premium merely for the district name. Wang Thonglang’s value is its position, not its show.
