The short version
Pak Kret combines a dense northern suburb with Muang Thong Thani, government offices, the Chao Phraya and the old island of Koh Kret nearby. It is a useful base for work in northern Bangkok or Nonthaburi, but a long daily run to Sukhumvit will feel like a tax on the rent.
Several Pak Krets
Chaeng Watthana is broad, busy and office oriented. The river side is older and quieter, while Muang Thong has its own apartment, event and shopping ecosystem. These are not interchangeable addresses. The Pink Line helps the main road corridor, but it does not turn every side street into a walkable neighbourhood.
Getting around
The Pink Line serves Pak Kret and connects towards Nonthaburi Civic Center and Min Buri. Buses and taxis remain important for Muang Thong and the river. A car is convenient for family life and events, though traffic around Chaeng Watthana and major venues can be severe at the wrong time.
My verdict
Pak Kret suits a northern Bangkok routine and residents who prefer room to centrality. I would choose the pocket around the actual commute, not the district name. It is practical, broad and often good value, but it will not pretend to be central Bangkok.
