The short version
Bang Kruai is a greenish, river and canal influenced suburb immediately west of Bangkok. It has older communities, hospitals, temples and new developments, but no single centre that makes the whole district easy. It is a good option for someone who wants the west bank and can organise the final part of every journey.
The choice of road
Bang Kruai’s river and canal lanes offer the most distinctive setting, while Ratchapruk and the main roads provide newer housing and retail. The pleasant looking lane may be narrow, flood prone or inconvenient for deliveries. The practical address is often the one with a reliable connection to Bang Bamru or the Blue Line edge.
Getting around
SRT’s Light Red Line serves Bang Bamru, and buses and taxis connect to Bang Phlat, Taling Chan and Nonthaburi. Rail is useful for selected trips rather than a blanket solution. A car helps with schools and shopping, though bridge traffic is part of the price.
Verdict
Bang Kruai suits a household that values room and a less central atmosphere. I would inspect the drainage, bridge route and walk to transport before falling for a river view. It is close to Bangkok, but not frictionless Bangkok.
