Where the capital does its shopping
Gadong is the commercial reference point for much of Bandar Seri Begawan. The area around Gadong Complex and its surrounding roads brings together retail, food, offices and the sort of ordinary errands that are more dispersed elsewhere in the capital. It is busy by Brunei standards, though the word should not be mistaken for an urban high street: the district is still organised around roads, parking and separate developments.
That makes Gadong a practical first choice for newcomers who want everyday convenience close at hand. It also means the exact address matters. A short distance on the map can involve a car journey across a junction, and noise or traffic exposure changes noticeably from one frontage to the next.
My verdict
Gadong is the sensible option for a commercial, central-ish routine, especially if you do not mind driving for almost everything. It is less convincing for someone seeking a genuinely walkable neighbourhood or a quiet residential retreat.
